With Easter comes egg overload season, am I right? We dye eggs pretty pastel shades, we fill little plastic eggs with surprise treats and hide them for children to find, we eat egg-shaped everything– chocolates and candies — you know the drill. Now that Easter is over what do you do with all of the eggs?

Let me tell you, eggs are a powerful ingredient in many DIY skin care routines.

When applied to skin, eggs provide extra protein, minerals and vitamins. The magnesium found in eggs helps to slow the aging process in skin cells, while riboflavin eradicates wrinkle-inducing toxins and free radicals. Protein keeps skin strong and resilient, and the potassium in eggs helps the skin retain moisture. So go ahead, round up the leftover eggs, whip up a mask and take a little “me time” for yourself and your skin.

BRIGHTENING MASK

  • 1 egg white
  • 1 teaspoon orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon plain yogurt

Orange juice delivers a little extra vitamin C to the skin, that helps to tone and brighten, the plain yogurt nourishes dull and dry skin. Yogurt also contains probiotics that are essential for a healthy functioning moisture barrier. These good bacteria are also very helpful in keeping acne-causing bacteria away naturally.

CLARIFYING MASK

  • 1 raw egg white
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Honey is packed with natural antiseptic and antibacterial properties, that makes it great for fighting acne without stripping the skin of barrier function. Lemon juice’s acidity and vitamin C help to clarify and brighten.
